The Rise of the Megarachnid

While I typically do not post twice in the same day I thought that starting to post info on my current conversion project would be fun. While this is not a "typical" army that most gamers would think of as being one that they would want to try to build, paint, and play against other people, I am not your "typical" gamer. Ask any one of my friends at the Games Workshop that I go to, A few examples of armies that I am currently building are..... Chaos Dwarves, Skaven Clan Moulder army, and the Dwarf Slayer army. While each of these are or have been sanctioned by GW. There is another army that I have NEVER heard of anyone even attempting to convert or even make an army book for them, The Megarachnid!!! For the people that have NOT read Horus Rising (Book 1 of the Horus Heresy novels) The Megarachnid are an alien race very similar to the Tyranids except in one small detail - to put it in simple terms - their cyborgs. The way they are described in the novel is.....

(Horus Rising - page 207) Even after he'd slain a fair number of them, Saul  Tarvitz was still unable to say with any certainty where the biology of the megarachnid stopped and their technology began. They were the most seamless things, a perfect fusion of artifice and organism. They did not wear their armour or carry their weapons. Their armour was an integument bonded to their arthropod shells, and they possessed weapons as naturally as a man might own fingers or a mouth.

With that said, here are the pictures of the Megarachnid as seen in my minds eye. But first I will show you what they look like before the conversion

Megarachnid conversion models - For those of you that are Warhammer Fantasy fans, you will recognize these as the spiders from the Goblin Spider Riders box shown from different angles to show you how the conversion takes place. From the picture directly above, Locate and cut off both the 2nd and the 3rd leg from the front on both sides, with that complete, slightly angle the stump where the leg molds into the body and reattach the leg so it splay's to the side as seen in the next picture

As you can see from the picture, there are a few different ways that you can position the legs to form different poses. Or you can be really brave and try this next one

To achieve the jumping spider on the left was not as hard as I thought it would be at first. You only have to cut off the first 3 legs and reattach them in such a way as to make it look like its jumping - then put it on a flying base using the hole that was originally used to mount it to its cavalry base.

I will post more pictures of completed models as they come available. The more fun task is coming up with rules for them (strictly for fun of course as I would not be able to use the rules in a legal tournament but something so that me and my friends can recreate the battle for Murder.)

Well, as I am only starting to convert the models it will probably be a little while before you hear from me again. so until that time, Peace Out!!!

Caveman's Grave Guard are here

As I said yesterday, It would either be today or tomorrow that I would be posting my next set of models - for the guys who followed my post on how I painted my Grave Guard - here are the finished products - the only thing that I changed are the swords, I wanted to give them a magical look instead of looking just like any other sword - The process is..... Basecoat Enchanted Blue, Drybrush Ice Blue, and then give them a wash of Thraka Green. You can still see each of the colors in the blade and they came out really nice.

Vampire counts Grave Guard - For the first picture I wanted to show you the front view - The line detailing on these took the longest but it makes the models really cool looking

 

Vampire Counts Grave Guard - For the next 2 pictures you can see the color variations on the swords - you cant really say that their poisoned because of the other colors under the green. But I could see how some people could mistake that if they were unfamiliar with the rules.

With this unit completed I am going to take a break from painting for a little while and concentrate on a alternate project that I have been working on recently. I will post pictures and information on them soon. Til then, Peace Out!!!

More Vampire Counts models

Im sorry its been a while since I posted last but work has been a bit crazy lately and I havent been able to paint as much. In this post I have finished 3 projects that I have been working on for a while but have come out really nice. I hope you enjoy them.

Vampire Counts Corpse Cart - this model took the longest amount of time for me to finish as it is the largest model in my army -I like the way this one came out but I think you will see an improvement in my painting in the next models.

  

Vampire Counts Dire Wolves - Each one of these models probably took me about 1 hour each to finish (of actual working time - not waiting time) Even the manager at the Games Workshop that I go to said that he liked these a lot more than than my previously painted models - Thanks for the encouragement Scott!!!

Vampire Counts Crypt Ghouls. Although this is only a small portion of the number of actual models that I will have in my army, I wanted you guys to have a look at them at least

As that now completes this post I will give you a hint into what to expect when you hear from me again. One of my previous post's should give you a clue, I will be performing the line detailing on the others and posting them soon. Till then, Peace Out!!!

Cavemans Painting Process

Hello once again from Texas guys,

I apologize for the wait - I got a little sidetracked

While you are viewing the pictures you will notice that I have used  multiple models to convey this process to you. This was to help get me started working on them as well as giving you a chance to see my other models as well. Each of these models has 9 steps to achieve the final result. I will give a brief description for each picture as I go.
Keep in mind that this process is only a suggestion for painting Vampire Counts. You may mix and match colors if you think they look nicer.

Caveman's Vampire Counts Painting Process Step 1 - Basecoat any metal items (armour, weapons,and shields) Charadon Granite.

 Caveman's Vampire Counts Painting Process Step 3 - Drybrush Boltgun Metal over the Tin bitz.

Caveman's Vampire Counts Painting Process Step 4 - Basecoat any bone Astronomican Grey - Anyone who has Primed their models White may disregard this step.

 Caveman's Vampire Counts Painting Process Step 5 - Paint Skull White over the Astronomican Grey.

 Caveman's Vampire Counts Painting Process Step 6 - Wash Devlan Mud over the Skull White.

Caveman's Vampire Counts Painting Process Step 7 - Paint any cloth Ice Blue.

 

Caveman's Vampire Counts Painting Process Step 8 - Line highlight any raised areas on the armour with Ice Blue and wash Asurmen Blue over the cloth and attach your shield (if so equipped).

Cavemans Painting Process

In a hope to revitalize my interest in blogging I am going to post a step-by-step process with pictures of how I paint different types of models. Since I am currently working on my Vampire Counts army - I will be posting pictures of me painting one of my Grave Guard. But before I begin I will post the finished product so you guys can see how its going to come out. While I will not be able to post pictures of it today, I would like to like to ask you guys what you think of my pictures so far. While I know I'm not as good as others, I want to ask your honest opinion. This is getting to be a frightfully one-sided blog. I've only had 1 comment out of all of the pictures that I've posted and that wasn't even by a member, It was by a guy who was looking online for others who had done Necron conversions.

I almost forgot about these models the other day-Its just been so long since I finished them that I forgot to take pictures of them along with my other models.

This round of pictures consists of a few pic's of a regiment of Plague Censor Bearers from my Skaven Army, a small regiment of Dwarves from Lord Of The Rings, my Cairn Wraith's from my Vampire Counts army, and a Canis Wolfborne model from Space Wolves. Again-If you like the way I painted them-feel free to ask me the process that I used.

New post from the Caveman

Hello from Texas my friends,
Wow, has it been a long time since I've posted on here. I cant say that I've been busy or just not wanted to post anything. Because if I did, It would not be true. It seems like I have just stopped doing much else except painting models but I can say that I have finally been able to start getting some good pictures of them at least. Granted I'm not sure if they are going to let me post this many pictures in one post-but I'm hoping they do. Also-If you have any questions about my painting process-feel free to ask in a comment.

In these pictures you will find a large amount of my Skaven Lords/Heroes and Unit Champions. A few pictures of my newest army- Vampire Counts. A picture of my Lord of the Rings Lord and Hero from my Dol Guldur army, and a few models from my 40k Armies Necrons and Grey Knights. I hope you enjoy them.

First-since they are my favorite army-My Skaven are leading the way.

Now moving on to Vampire Counts.
My idea for the color scheme came because every other V.C army I have ever seen has been a red or black color scheme-so I decided to do something different-I think you guys will like this one

I decided on the Ice Blue color scheme from the book because it makes the models look very creepy. I'm sure you guys will agree. I cant wait to see this entire army on the table.

Now moving on to Lord of the Rings.
Nothing fancy on these guys, These models are from The Dol Guldur army, The Necromancer and my Wild Warg Chieftain. I love how they came out though.

And now on to 40k.
My Necrons were very first 40k army-I am actually in the process of repainting the normal troops in preparation for the new codex. but these guys came out so nice I decided to keep them the same. the Lord character on the left is a conversion for a Flayed one.

And last but definitely not least, my Grey Knight Terminators.
